coils are magic! slabs are tried + true!
learn about them both + build confidence in your studio practice during this 4 week class with court. email project inspiration before class if you have any!
we’ll learn to work with coils — stack them high to make the cup of your dreams or build them out to make a custom ring dish, garlic grater, or cat food dish.
we’ll also cover slab use — including use of forms, how to keep things flat, sturdy, and crack free.
NOTE: classes are 2 hours long + include one hour of studio time after class. no instruction is available during that time!
about the class —
week 1 will focus on the basics of slabs, coils, and attachments. each student will begin to outline a project goal, and we’ll work together to produce coils + slabs.
week 2 we’ll talk a little about details, refining and surface design (including underglaze!)
week 3 each student will add their finishing touches and detail work. funky handles! little spoon holders! pots will really develop character this week :) we’ll finish all had building work + talk about glazing!
week 4 we’ll cover the basics of dipping + brush on glazes, and students will wrap up their work. court will also get you set up as a member if you’d decide to join waterbear after your class ends!
pottery will be ready for pickup 1-2 weeks after your final class!
